DETROIT (WWJ/AP) – Authorities say a group of children were playing after school when they came across human remains in a wooded area on Detroit’s west side.

Sources tell WWJ the kids were playing Thursday afternoon near the Rouge River when they found several bones, along with some gym shoes.

Police say the remains are believed to be of an adult.

The medical examiner’s office is working to identify the remains and determine how long they may have been in the area, although investigators believe the bones might have been there for a couple of years.
