Pepper Spray In Appartment Building Sickens 10, Including Kids

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Ten people -- including three children -- have been treated for breathing problems after a can of pepper spray was accidentally dropped and discharged in a Pittsfield Township apartment building.

The Ann Arbor News reports Wednesday that a building at the Glencoe Hills Apartments was evacuated about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters carried two people out of the building, located about 30 miles southwest of Detroit. Residents complained of trouble breathing, coughing and vomiting.

About 20 people were checked out at an emergency triage area set up outside the building. No one required hospitalization.

The newspaper reports that residents were allowed to return to their apartments once the building was ventilated.
