Competency Exam Ordered For Teen In Plot To Murder Her Family

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - A mental exam has been ordered to determine whether a 15-year-old metro Detroit girl is competent for trial on charges she plotted with her boyfriend to kill her family.

Roksana Sikorski, who's charged as an adult, sat silent in a maroon, jail jumpsuit in 35th District Court Friday while Judge Michael Gerou granted a prosecutor's request for the evaluation, saying, "I'd rather err on the side of caution."

The hearing and preliminary examination have been scheduled for Dec. 12.

A similar exam was also ordered for her boyfriend, 23-year-old Michael Rivera, who is accused of planning the murders with  Sikorski.

Sikorski and Rivera are charged with assault with intent to murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Prosecutors say Sikorski stabbed her brother multiple times in the neck on Oct. 17 while Rivera was outside her family's of Plymouth Township home sending her instructions via text message.

In a separate case, and at the request of the prosecutor, the judge on Friday also dismissed criminal sexual conduct charges against Rivera.

Roksana Sikorski's mother, Laurene Sikorski, was a little surprised at that.

"I didn't know what to think," she told WWJ's Mike Campbell and other reporters. "You know, I understand he's going to get adjournment as well, and I understand that...I feel sorry for his family; I have no bad, ill will toward his parents or anything like that, but what he did was wrong. What he did was wrong."

Defense attorney Leslie Posner said she thinks the prosecutor dropped the CSC charges, specifically "against a minor," because they are charging Roksana Sikorski as an adult in the murder plot.

Laurene Sikorski said the sex charges against Rivera could be brought again at another time.
