AT&T Enhances Wireless Coverage At MSU's Spartan Stadium

EAST LANSING (CBS Detroit) - Fans heading to Michigan State University this weekend for the Spartans big game against Ohio State will have greater connectivity on their mobile devices through an investment by AT&T.
The communications company has expanded its mobile Internet coverage at Spartan Stadium by installing a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to improve connectivity for AT&T customers at the facility.
"When our customers head out to the stadium to cheer on their favorite team, we want them to have a great network experience throughout the game no matter what they're doing – whether that's making a call, checking email, downloading apps or surfing the Internet," said Jim Murray, president, AT&T Michigan, in a release. "With initiatives like Project VIP, we're continuing our investment in the wireless network, and providing enhanced wireless coverage at Michigan State University is just one way that we're investing in East Lansing."
Multiple strategically placed 4G LTE antenna system that distributes AT&T's wireless network coverage throughout Spartan Stadium, have been installed to expand wireless capacity on game days.
These antennas help improve mobile Internet connection by shortening the distance a request must travel. The additional capacity also is expected to help improve call reliability, boost data traffic capacity and enable more consistent network access, the company stated.
The MSU DAS installation is part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP), a multi-year plan to invest for growth, announced in 2012.
As for the football game, Michigan State takes on Ohio State at 8 p.m. Saturday.
