Candlelight Vigil Held For Woman Who Was Fatally Shot At Cash Advance In 2013
TAYLOR (WWJ/AP) -- It has been one year since a man walked into the Advance America Cash Advance in Taylor and shot and killed an employee during a robbery.
A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday in honor of Chelsea Small out in front of that store. The person responsible for Small's death has never been arrested.
Her father, Norman, said that they are still looking for the man spotted on surveillance video wearing a hat.
"You don't have a hat on when you come in these places -- you're not supposed to," Small said. "I don't know if my daughter knew him, or what, but he never took him hat off to come in. But as soon as my daughter noticed him not taking his hat off she hit the panic button."
There is a reward of more than $52,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the case.
"We've had several leads over the past year but nothing that has necessarily panned out and we're hoping that maybe some renewed interest will lead to that," said Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi.
Officers found Small's body on Nov. 12, 2013 while responding to a holdup alarm at the store. Police say Small was shot multiple times. Robbery appears to be the motive, police said, as cash was missing from the store.
Small, who had only worked at the store for a few months, was the only employee working at the time. The store had a security entrance that customers have to buzzed-in through, but police aren't sure if Small knew her killer.
