Macomb County Police Continue Investigation Of Crash That Killed Two Men

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) — An accident which claimed the lives of two men early Saturday morning is under investigation by Macomb County Police.

According to police, a 2003 Dodge Stratus was traveling northbound on Gratiot when the driver apparently disregarded a red light and crashed into a Chevy Avalanche that was traveling westbound on Hall Road. Both drivers were declared dead at the scene.

Macomb County Sheriff Tony Wickersham told WWJ there were multiple Sheriff's vehicles in pursuit of 24-year-old Macomb resident Antonio Forton who ran a red light on northbound Gratiot. The man then struck a 45-year-old St. Clair Shores man headed westbound on Hall Rd.

Wickersham said that his department will be conducting an internal investigation to make sure proper procedures were followed by the deputies involved.

Gratiot Avenue was closed for about eight hours as police investigated.
