School Board Member Resigns After 'Joking' Kids With Food Allergies Should Be Shot [VIDEO]

CLAWSON (WWJ/AP) - A school board member in an Oakland County community has resigned after joking that students with food allergies should be shot.

Linda Grossman threw up her hands and laughed after making the remark at a public meeting on Nov. 10.

Video shows other Clawson board members laughing, too, during a discussion about the rising number of students with food allergies at Kenwood Elementary.

Grossman said: "Well, you should just shoot them."

Her resignation was announced Tuesday. The school board released a statement saying they were "stunned and saddened" by Grossman's comment.

"Although the comment was an inappropriate attempt at humor, it was most insensitive, and has resulted in the resignation of Linda Grossmann, Clawson Board of Education trustee. It does not represent the views of our district nor our Board of Education," the statement read.

Clawson Superintendent Monique Beels added that the comment was "hurtful."

Grossmann has yet to comment on her resignation.
