It's Red Kettle Day In Metro Detroit: Donate To Make A Difference

DETROIT (WWJ) - The city of Detroit is turning red to help raise awareness of the final days of The Salvation Army 2014 Red Kettle Campaign, which ends when red kettles leave storefronts on Christmas Eve.

The centerpiece of the Red Kettle Day is a lunchtime celebration in Campus Martius Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. The celebration will include a bell-ringing competition to see who can raise the most donations, appearances by the Detroit Tigers' mascot Paws and the Detroit Lions' mascot Roary and a live performance by The Salvation Army Brass Band.

Two of Detroit's most beloved churches -- Mariner's Church of Detroit and Our Lady of the Rosary Parish -- will simultaneously ring their bells for one minute at 9:50 a.m. in support of Red Kettle Day.

WWJ Newsradio 950 will also broadcast live interviews and reports mid-day from downtown Detroit's Campus Martius Park.
