Man Charged In Series Of Dearborn Vehicle Break-Ins

DEARBORN (WWJ) -- A Romulus man has been sentenced in a string of vehicle break-ins committed throughout Dearborn on Thursday.

Dearborn Police arrested Juan Nehzeh Simmons, a 33-year-old Romulus resident, after watching him enter several unlocked parked cars in the area in an apparent attempt to steal items from the vehicles on Thursday. Police responded to the area after alert residents called to report a suspicious man pulling on car door handles.

Simmons pleaded guilty to unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and violation of the knife ordinance and was sentenced to 45 days in jail.

When arrested, Simmons was found to be armed with a knife and also wanted on numerous outstanding warrants from various communities throughout Wayne County.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad reminded residents to keep their car doors locked and to refrain from storing valuable items within sight in their vehicles.

"Perpetrators of relatively minor, non-violent crimes of opportunity often have a history of committing more significant crimes throughout the region,"Haddad said. "This is why it is important that we partner with other agencies and neighborhood groups to create a synergy that will be more effective in reducing crime than the efforts of many groups acting separately."
