Gas Prices Drop Below $2 A Gallon At Stations Across Metro Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - They're not quite giving gas away, but prices have dropped over 60 cents in the last month.

Now, with the price lower than it has been in about five years, metro Detroit motorists talking to WWJ's Charlie Langton couldn't be happier as they pumped for under $2 a gallon.

"I think it's wonderful — yeah!" said Fuhrman Pueblo of Trenton, filling up in Dearborn Heights. "It's hasn't been $1.98 since what, the 80s, maybe?"

What will he do with the savings?

"Probably have lunch," he said, with a laugh.

Gene Olligio had a big smile on his face as he filled up what Langton described as a "big gas guzzler."

"I live in Hamburg, Michigan, and I drive to Redford; so it's like eight gallons a day," Olligio said.

"It's a really nice truck," he added.

Prices around $1.98 a gallon have been spotted across southeast Michigan.

The best deal in metro Detroit — as reported by GasBuddy.com Monday morning —  was $1.94 at the Sam's Club on Northline Rd., near I-75, in Southgate. Not a Sam's member? Try the Way Station on Main Street in Plymouth for $1.95.

For Costco members, the best deal was $1.96 at the Madison Heights store on Stephenson Hwy.   The price was also down to $1.96 at the Marathon on Mack Ave. at Conner in Detroit and the CITGO at the same intersection.
