Wildlife Photographer Exhibit On Display At Detroit Zoo Through March 23

DETROIT (WWJ) - If you're looking for something fun to do this winter, the Detroit Zoo is the place to be.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition – a collection of images from the world's largest and most prestigious wildlife photography competition – is now on display at the Detroit Zoo's Ford Education Center through March 23 -- and the best part: It's FREE with zoo admission.

The exhibition of winners from the 2013 competition features 100 images dramatically displayed as illuminated large-format color transparencies. The images were chosen from more than 42,000 entries by photographers from 96 countries.

"This spectacular exhibition outdoes itself year after year, showcasing the most incredible images of wildlife from around the globe," Ron Kagan, the zoo's executive director, said in a statement. "It is not to be missed."

Run by the Natural History Museum, the competition's award-winning images reflect the zoo's mission: to understand and conserve the diversity of the natural world.

This year the competition has taken a fresh approach to challenge photographers. New categories reveal a greater diversity of species, while also encouraging entrants to explore new technologies to capture them.

From single intimate frames to complex photostories and layered motion stills, the 100 award-winners are bonded by startling visuals, compelling narratives and a shared purpose: reigniting passion for the natural world.
