DETROIT (WWJ) — A Detroit man has been charged with open murder in the fatal shooting of a Detroit teen who he was allegedly arguing with during a dice game.

DeShawn Jones, 25, was arraigned Saturday in the death of 19-year-old Terrance Washington who was shot in a house on the city’s west side near Six Mile Rd. and Southfield on December 27.

Washington’s mother, Katina Anderson, claims her son was winning a $2 dice game, causing the losers to get angry. An argument broke-out, and shots were fired.

According to Anderson, her son said ‘let’s fight’ as the argument escalated. Jones allegedly told Washington that he wasn’t going to fight, but would shoot him instead — and did. Anderson said that several people witnessed the shooting, but no one is speaking up.

Washington was an honor student and planned to attend Ohio State University in the fall. The family has set up a Go-Fund-Me account to help pay for funeral costs which has raised just over $2700.
