Woman Accused Of Dismembering Son, Dumping Body Parts Ordered To Stand Trial

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ/AP) - A judge says a 60-year-old St. Clair Shores woman charged with killing and dismembering her son should stand trial.

Tuesday's decision by District Court Judge Mark Fratarcangelli in St. Clair Shores sends Donna Scrivo's case to Macomb County Circuit Court. The judge noted that witnesses said they saw the defendant placing bags in her vehicle at her son's home.

Scrivo, a registered nurse, has denied killing her son. She faces charges including first-degree murder mutilation of a body and removing a body without permission. A hearing is Feb. 2.

Defense lawyer Mark Haddad calls the case highly circumstantial.

Five bags containing 32-year-old Ramsay Scrivo's body parts were dumped in late January 2014 in rural St. Clair County, off I-94, about 50 miles northeast of Detroit. An electric saw was also found in one of the bags.

Prosecutors say Donna Scrivo filed a missing person's report Jan. 27, saying that her son left his St. Clair Shores home and failed to return. Three days later, someone reported seeing a woman dumping trash bags from an SUV in China and St. Clair townships.

Donna Scrivo was arrested Feb. 1.

Authorities say they think that Ramsay Scrivo was strangled on Jan. 25, 2014. An autopsy showed he also had a high level of prescription drugs in his system, which may have contributed to his death.
