Report: Lions Tell Dominic Raiola He Will Not Return To Team In 2015

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- After 14 years at the center of the Detroit Lions' offensive line, Dominic Raiola has seemingly been shown the door.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press cited sources saying management informed Raiola that the team was ready to move on.

"The Detroit Lions have informed long-time center Dominic Raiola that they don't plan on bringing him back for a 15th season next year, according to a source with knowledge of the situation who is not authorized to speak about it publicly."

Raiola had played every game throughout his 14-year career with the Lions up until he was suspended in December for stepping on Chicago Bears defensive tackle Ego Ferguson. CBS Detroit's Ashley Dunkak reported on Jan. 8 that Raiola was hopeful he would return to Detroit for a 15th season.

"I'm optimistic," Raiola said. "I think I will be. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I'm not. I still want to play. I still think I have a lot to offer and a lot to offer this locker room if I could go one more go-around. I'd be honored."

Detroit drafted center Travis Swanson from Arkansas in the third round of the 2014 draft. Swanson started five games for the Lions in 2014, filling in for Raiola and injured lineman Larry Warford.
