Tech Companies To Compete For Chance To Pitch To Google

By Edward Cardenas

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Eleven start-ups will take the stage Thursday at Grand Circus in Detroit for a chance to head to Silicon Valley and pitch their company to Google.

This is the second time Grand Circus, which offers training, co-working, and event hosting in downtown Detroit, will host a local Google Demo Day.

A team of four judges will hear a three-minute pitch from the company, and then have a two-minute question and answer session. The judges will then select three finalists.

Google will then determine how many of the three companies will be flown to their headquarters in Mountain View.

The semi-finalists include

  • Locqus, a real-time GPS vehicle and fleet tracking management from a smart phone, tablet or desktop.
  • Seat Side Service, allows customers to order their favorite concession and merchandise from their seat at entertainment venues.
  • Clicktivated Video, Inc., allows viewers to select items, people and products the are interested in, and with a click inside of a video, they can view more information, purchase or engage.
  • Show of Hands, an easy-to-use, real-time anonymous polling application for the Android, iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.
  • LevelEleven, a sales performance platform.
  • Larky, a web and mobile service that helps users get discounts in one place.
  • Wisely, uses spending data to help find and enjoy local experiences.
  • Are You A Human, analyzes interaction on video, display and native ads to ensure that every impression is shown to a live person.
  • GENOMENON, created software for researchers, molecular diagnosticians, geneticists and eventually primary care clinicians to input genome sequencing data through a HIPPA-compliant web-interface to identify disease-associated genetic variants for clinical decision-making or scientific discovery.
  • AdAdapted Inc., gives independent app publishers easy-to-use technology to connect their apps with advertisers
  • LaunchGood, a crowdfunding site created by Muslims "to support great ideas in the community and also challenge ourselves to think bigger."

Developers of iRule, which created an app that allows consumers to use smartphones and tablets to control devices such as lights and televisions, won the initial local event in 2014.
The Detroit-based company eventually secured $100,000 from former AOL founder Steve Case.
