SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) – An independent mobile analytics firm has named Verizon Wireless the top mobile carrier in Detroit.

Root Metrics tested Verizon Wireless against other carriers from Dec. 4-12 and found the company had the “best overall performance.”

This is the seventh time Root Metrics has tested the Detroit market – which stretches from south of Southgate to Oxford in the north and Lake St. Clair to Milford in the west. The most recent test was in April 2014.

During that time, the company found Verizon’s median download speed increased from 24.7 Mbps to 32.6 Mbps, and Verizon’s median upload speed increased from 10.7 Mbps to 21.6 Mbps.

The company also  posted winning scores in reliability and call performance. This is the fifth consecutive time Verizon has won the Root Metrics Overall Performance Award in metro Detroit.
