Michigan Truck Driver Survives 1-75 Bridge Collapse In Ohio

HOWELL, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan truck driver says he's blessed to have survived the recent collapse of an interstate overpass that killed one person in Ohio.

Eric Meyers of Howell told the Livingston Daily Press & Argus that time felt like it slowed and he thought he was dead right before his semitrailer crashed into the Cincinnati expressway overpass that collapsed as he was driving along Interstate 75 on Monday night.

"I thought it was going to go right through my head," Meyers said. "It dropped right in front of me. The whole freeway came down."

Meyers said the front of his vehicle was crushed by the impact with the concrete and debris. Emergency workers told Meyers he was lucky to have walked away with only minor injuries. A construction worker helped Meyers climb out the passenger-side window of his mangled truck.

The crash could have been worse, Meyers said, had he not just dropped off a load. The cargo could have shifted forward in the collision, possibly injuring him more seriously.

Meyers told the newspaper Wednesday that he received a bump on his head and was still a little sore, but mainly just happy to be alive.
