Rochester Hills Man Allegedly Used Hammers To Kill Elderly Parents

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 53-year-old man used hammers to beat his 87-year-old father and 85-year-old mother to death inside their Rochester Hills home.

Jeffrey Maurer was arraigned Wednesday by video link in 52-3 District Court on two counts of premeditated first-degree murder. He refused to speak, and Judge Nancy T. Carniak ordered him held without bond until his next court appearance Feb. 3.

The bodies of William and Gail Maurer were found Monday afternoon inside a vehicle in the attached garage of their home on E. Maryknoll Road, in a neighborhood off Walton Boulevard and S. Adams Road.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies went to the home after being contacted by couple's son-in-law, who said he hadn't been able to contact his in-laws since Saturday.

Jeffrey Maurer was found at the home in a disheveled state, according to Undersheriff Mike McCabe. He was immediately taken into custody after police found his parents' bodies and other evidence, including two bloody hammers and "a great deal of blood-stained clothing and towels."

Investigators say victims appeared to have died of blows to the head. A possible motive for the crime has not been disclosed.

Jeffrey Maurer reportedly has a previous domestic violence conviction involving his parents, as well as a history of mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse.
