YPSILANTI (WWJ) – Two Eastern Michigan University students are dead following a car crash in Ypsilanti Township Sunday morning.

Derrick Jackson of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department says speed looks to have been a factor in the head-on Hewitt Road north of Michigan Avenue.

“It’s always something we check in situations like this, accidents involving death, but there is nothing to say there was or there wasn’t at this point. We’ll be waiting for toxicology report and more questioning with the gentleman who was driving the other vehicle as well,” said Jackson.

Police say while the investigation is ongoing, it appears the student’s car crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic and hit the other car head-on.
