TRAVERSE CITY (AP) – A Lake Leelanau teenager has been sentenced to a year in prison for causing a car accident that killed one of his passengers and another driver.

Tyler LeVeque, 17, pleaded guilty in December to two counts of reckless driving causing death and one count of reckless driving causing serious injury. He was sentenced Monday to one year in jail on each count and will be allowed to serve the sentences concurrently. LeVeque also was ordered to complete five years of probation, 200 community service hours and presentations at high schools.

Investigators said LeVeque ran a stop sign around 12:45 a.m. Aug. 23 in an attempt to catch air and create a roller coaster effect. His vehicle crashed into a pickup truck, killing 31-year-old Brian Nachazel of Cedar.

A passenger in LeVeque’s vehicle, 17-year-old Drake Hendershot, died several days later.
