The Kent Lake Elementary PTO set up an account for donations to the family through First Merit Bank in South Lyon. As of Friday, that account had more than $9,000 donated. Anyone interested can still donate to that. A account was established, as well. On Monday afternoon, that account had more than $10,000 donated. The site deducts about 8 percent of the donations before dispersing funds.

The South Lyon East High School Junior Class (Class of 2016) is sponsoring a White Out day this Friday, Jan. 30, in support of the Montanez family.

Each first hour class will take donations –but donations may be made into the first few hours. The donations collected from the students and staff at East will be sent to First Merit Bank where an account has been set up in their name. Other schools in the district, including Kent Lake Elementary, indicated they will take part in the fundraiser, as well.

Plans reportedly were underway for fundraising at Friday’s South Lyon-South Lyon East basketball game, as well.

Another fundraiser is planned for 3-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3, as well. Leo’s Coney Island waitstaff will donate all of their tips, and the New Hudson restaurant will donate 20 percent of its sales during that time into the PTO account. Owner Sam Ayoub’s store is located at 30422 Milford Road in New Hudson.

Bakers of Milford will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser 4-9 p.m. on Feb. 5 to benefit the fanmily, as well.

Serving up spaghetti, salad, bread sticks and beverages, the cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets will be available at the door and proceeds will be donated to the PTO family fund.

In addition to the dinner, there will be raffle baskets and a silent auction with a variety of items, including: a team signed Detroit Red Wings jersey, a signed basketball from Tom Izzo with MSU tickets, a signed football from the Lions’ Brandon Pettigrew, signed Lions jerseys, Tigers and Pistons items and more. Raffle baskets will, plus too many other auction items to list.
