Detroit Man Who Walked 21-Mile Commute Receives Brand New Car [VIDEO]

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A Detroit man who walked a 21 mile commute to and from his job in Rochester Hills for the past decade became the owner of a new car on Friday.

David Fisher, co-owner of Suburban Ford in Sterling Heights, handed James Robertson the keys to a brand new 2015 Ford Taurus -- his dream car -- on Friday.

"The old Taurus' from the 80s, they never were this fancy or anything," Robertson said. "I feel like I'm standing as living proof that prayer works every time and I want everybody to know that. The best part of the story is that now people are starting to talk about the bus system and how fractured it is. We have a problem and we need to fix it."

The man who shed light on Robertson's plight was Blake Pollock of Rochester, who noticed him walking alone down the side of the road day after day. Pollock stopped one day to offer Robertson a ride.

"I pulled over and he got in the car and he turned out to be an amazing, fascinating person with a crazy story," Pollock said. "Who doesn't like to hang out with people like that."

Another contributor who helped expose Robertson's story was Wayne State University student Evan Leedy, who went online seeking a few dollars in donations to help Robertson get a car.

"Right now, the total is just over $310,ooo and he has the car of his dreams, so it's an amazing thing to see," Leedy said.
