Black History: Celebrating Detroit-Based Writer Sylvia Hubbard

DETROIT (WWJ) - I always say, "don't give anyone the keys to drive you crazy," says Sylvia Hubbard, Detroit-based writer and founder of Motown Writers Network.

"We basically help writers get to their literary goals and connect readers to Michigan authors," she said.

In 2013, a fire raced through the home she was renting and she and her family ended up homeless. It was an ordeal for Hubbard and her three children - penniless and no place to go.

The years she spent contributing to the community came back ten-fold when she was in need.

"On February 21, Habitat for Humanity will be honoring me for my community work that I've been doing for them," said Hubbard. Putting in sweat equity - Hubbard will have a new home thanks to Habitat.

Hubbard has been independently publishing her romance novels since 2000 and founded the Motown Writers Network almost 15 years ago.

She has six paperbacks published and over 30 e-books.
