Bundle Up! Coldest Weather Of The Winter On The Way To Metro Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Just when you thought it couldn't get any colder, it will be getting colder in Southeast Michigan.

Forecasters say metro Detroiters should prepare for the most frigid weather of this season this week; and it looks like the worst of it will hit this weekend.

"Saturday and Sunday mornings we could be challenging record lows which are in the 5 to 10 below zero range — and that's air temperature, not real-feel temperature," said WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dr. Joe Sobel. "So, get those parkas and gloves and scarves ready to go."

In the meantime, some snow will fall in southeast Michigan.

Sobel says to expect a light dusting, perhaps up to an inch, on Wednesday when temperatures will rise to a relatively balmy 32 to 33 degrees in the afternoon, before turning sharply colder overnight, with a low of 11 degrees and a real-feel of 20 below zero by daybreak.

More bad news: The ice-cold air will stick around during the day Thursday, as the temperature won't go up more than a couple of degrees.

Metro Detroiters should expect a couple more inches of snow on Friday, AccuWeather says, when the high temperature will get up to 19 degrees before dropping down, down, down for the weekend.
