Air France To Deliver Tasty 'Amor' For Valentine's Day

By Edward Cardenas

ROMULUS (CBS Detroit) - Air France is gave passengers on Friday's Detroit-Paris route a locally created taste of France before they boarded the plane.

The airline has teamed up with local Parisian chef Chloé Sabatier to give passengers a sample of traditional French chocolate lava cakes, and share a complimentary dessert with their Valentine before they boarded for the trans-Atlantic flight.

"Chef Chloé's entrepreneurial success story is delicious evidence of Detroit's ongoing renaissance, and Air France is proud to support this local start-up business," said Thomas Walsh, Station Manager, Air France, in  a release. "We have operated direct flights between Detroit and Paris since 2006, and it's exciting to commemorate this long-standing relationship by partnering with Chef Chloé and bringing our customers authentic French desserts, locally made in Detroit."

Sabatier, a native of France who currently lives in Michigan, and brought her recipe for the traditional French dessert, "Fondant au chocolat," which is a chocolate cake with a molten center.

Walsh discovered the cakes at a local market and successfully had the dessert added to Air France flights this spring. But before the items were added to the menu, passengers on Friday's flight to Paris sampled the cakes and had the opportunity to send complimentary cakes to their loved ones in the Detroit area free of charge or bring the dessert with them on board.

For passengers who elected to send the cakes, uniformed Air France staff will personally deliver Chez Chloé lava cakes to Detroit-area residents Saturday with a personally written Valentine's card.

"Not since Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac landed in Detroit in 1701 have we experienced a more enjoyable French-inspired treat than Chloe Sabatier's lava cakes," said Detroit airport CEO Thomas Naughton, in a release. "I commend Air France for partnering with a small Detroit business and wish them both the best of success."

Air France and Sabatier have worked together previously on Christmas Day when passengers in Detroit received mini lava cakes in the boarding area, and individually gift wrapped packages of the desserts for each Business and La Première customer onboard.

The cakes can be found at Treat Dreams in Ferndale.
