Washtenaw County Corrections Officer Killed In Head-On Collision

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A head-on collision in Washtenaw County claimed the life of a member of the Washtenaw Sheriff's department and seriously injured another man early Friday morning.

The incident happened on Michigan Avenue near Arkona Road in Bridgewater Township around 7:30 a.m. when a Pontiac G6 crossed the centerline and hit a Ford F-150.

The driver of the Pontiac, 33-year-old Chad Hilborn, was killed. Hilbron was a corrections officer with the Washtenaw County Jail.

Sgt. Michael Sura with the Michigan State Police Department explained what happened during the crash.

"As a result of the collision, the male driver of the Pontiac G6 was killed," Sura said. "The male driver of the Ford F-150 received critical injuries, he was taken by life flight to the University of Michigan Hospital for treatment."

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelt, while drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.

A GoFundMe site has been started to help support Hilborn's wife and two daughters.
