Hall Of Fame Highlights Contributions Of Black Ballplayers
COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — The National Baseball Hall of Fame is celebrating Black History month with special Presidents Week events highlighting the contributions of African-American ballplayers.
The shrine in Cooperstown is offering guided tours during the afternoon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the museum's "Pride and Passion" exhibit that tells the story of the Negro Leagues and its stars.
It was 68 years ago this April that future Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson played his first game for the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking Major League Baseball's color barrier. In honor of his accomplishments, the Hall of Fame is showing the award-winning film "42" in the museum's Bullpen Theater.
The 2013 Hollywood production tells the story of Robinson after he broke in with the Dodgers in 1947.
