
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Connecticut defensive back Byron Jones’ record-breaking performance had the NFL world abuzz Monday.
He soared 12 feet, 3 inches in the broad jump — 15 inches farther than Florida State’s P.J. Williams, who was second among the defensive backs working out at the league’s annual scouting combine Monday.
READ MORE: AG Nessel Says Abortions Are Still Legal In MichiganThat is 8 inches longer than anyone listed in the combine database and former longtime NFL executive Gil Brandt, who now works for NFL.com, said he believes Jones’ jump set the all-time mark at the event.
Jones was not just a one-event wonder, either. His vertical jump of 44.5 inches also was the best of the day, 3 inches higher than Florida State’s Ron Darby.
