Farmington Spa Gives Royal Treatment To Parents Of Kids In Children's Hospital

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's been a special day of relaxation and pampering for some parents at a Detroit hospital.

Parents who have children being cared for at Children's Hospital of Michigan were treated with massages and facials at the hospital Thursday.

Yolanda Kindle of Flint received a chair massager. Her 9-year old son has been hospitalized for a week following 6 surgeries in recent months.

Spa Hospit (SDavis) 3"I think it's awesome ... it's stressful being away from home because it's a commute to come back and forth so I actually stay here when he's in the hospital," said Kindle.

"I feel so relieved," she said, "the stress of being away from home, not being able to work."

The free services were offered by Farmington-based Bellis Therapeutic Spa.

Owner, Brandi Ellis says she wanted to do something for parents in honor of her brother who died two-years ago this month.

"You know that a relaxing day at the spa is what every parent needs and just going through this," said Ellis.

"By just understanding the grief that parents deal with now and living through putting your life back together - it was just a way for me to give back," she said.

Ellis came up with the idea to do something for parents in honor of her brother's death from heart disease two years ago.
