Suspects Steal Running Car From Detroit Gas Station, Crash Into Building Causing Gas Leak

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities are searching for two suspects who stole a car from a gas station on Detroit's northwest side and crashed into a nearby building, causing a gas leak in the area.

The situation unfolded just before 5:30 a.m. Friday at a gas station in the 15000 block of West 7 Mile Road near Robson Street, just west of the Lodge Freeway.

A 52-year-old man told police he had left his running black 1999 Ford Taurus unattended outside of the station when two suspected entered the vehicle and drove away at a high rate of speed.

The suspects drove about two blocks east until they crashed into a business in the 14700 block of West 7 Mile Road and struck a gas meter, causing a gas leak. The suspects then fled the scene.

Police responded to the crash site and notified DTE Energy officials.

Investigators are now looking for two suspects, but have not yet provided their physical descriptions.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Detroit police at 313-596-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
