Judge Tells Village To Release More Records About Reservists

OAKLEY, Mich. (AP) - A judge has ordered a village in Saginaw County to release more records that disclose names of reserve police officers.

Shiawassee County Judge Matthew Stewart says Oakley has "come up with short" in complying with a public records request. He held a hearing Wednesday and heard testimony from people who were reservists, including Detroit-area media attorney Herschel Fink.

There are roughly 290 residents in Oakley but more than 100 reserve officers from around the state. Many made payments to maintain police credentials.

The Saginaw News says attorney Philip Ellison, who sued to get the names, calls the reservists a "souped-up gun club"

Fink was ordered to testify, despite protesting that his subpoena was simply part of a "show" by Ellison. He says he's no longer an Oakley reservist.
