Metro Airport To Host Volunteer Fair For Local Organizations

By Edward Cardenas

ROMULUS (CBS Detroit) - Representatives from more than two dozen organizations from across Metro Detroit will be represented at a recruitment fair that will be held Friday at Detroit Metro Airport.

Customer service ambassadors at the airport, sharing time with the American Red Cross and representing the region for the Detroit Convention and Visitor bureaus are among the opportunities available at the first-of-its kind event.

"We have a strong history of great partnerships here," said Airport Authority CEO Thomas Naughton, in a release. "The airport is a community, and we pull in travelers, customers, employees, and volunteers from all over. The nature of what we do is helping facilitate connections - what better place to illustrate that we are stronger when we work together, and that there are tremendous opportunities to give back and help contribute to many worthwhile causes throughout our region?"

The recruitment fair featuring 25 local organizations will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Detroit Metropolitan Airport's NOMADS building, 10100 Middlebelt Rd, Romulus, MI 48174.

Organizations scheduled to attend the event, and provide information about volunteer opportunities, include:

  • Airport Ambassador Volunteer Program
  • American Red Cross
  • Ann Arbor Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • AYUSA – Academic Year, U.S.A. - A non-profit Foreign Exchange student program.

"We are always looking for opportunities to recruit new volunteer customer service ambassadors here at the airport," said DTW Customer Service Manager Fran Wood. "Finding passionate and committed volunteers is our challenge; but there wasn't a shared local venue or platform to find new recruits, so we thought we would create one."
