MONROE (WWJ) — An escaped Monroe County Jail inmate is back in custody after three days on the run.
The Monroe County Sheriff said that George Wingle, 27, was working in the community near the Fraternal Order of Police Hall on Strausburg Road just south of Custer Road, around 9:45 a.m. Friday when he escaped.READ MORE: MDOT: Final Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup Of 2021 Starts September 25
Police say Wingle walked away and was picked up in a red Ford Escape that they believe was driven by his girlfriend.READ MORE: Invasive Species Found After Mid-Michigan Dam Failures
Wingle was found in Detroit by the Police Special Operations Unit and the Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit. Wingle will later be charged in the escape.
