LEGOLAND Coming To Great Lakes Crossing Outlets

By Edward Cardenas

AUBURN HILLS (CBS Detroit) - Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills will get a new destination attraction in 2016 with the addition of a LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

Mall officials announced Monday that work on the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan will begin this summer, with a spring 2016 opening date for the indoor attraction.

"The LEGOLAND Discovery Centers have been a huge success across the globe, particularly as an opportunity for adults and children to spend fun, quality time together," said Glenn Earlam, managing director, Merlin's Midway Attractions Operating Group, in a release. "Great Lakes Crossing Outlets is the ideal location for the attraction as the mall is already a favored destination for Michigan families and tourists from the region."

The discovery center is geared toward children 3-10 years old and features a number of interactive experiences including a brick pool, master classes from the LEGO Master Model Builder, a LEGO ride, party rooms and a 4-D cinema.

There will also be a MINILAND that will feature Detroit-area buildings and landmarks made from LEGO bricks.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan will be located in District 6, adjacent to the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets food court.

"We are excited to welcome the LEGOLAND Discovery Center to the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets family," said Steve Berlow, general manager of the center, in a release. "The enduring appeal of the LEGO brick combined with our already popular SEA LIFE aquarium ensures that our center will continue to be the premier destination for families who enjoy great shopping combined with high-quality entertainment and dining."

This will be the eighth LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan to open in the United States, and will join the popular SEA LIFE aquarium which opened in January at Great Lakes Crossing.
