Autopsy Shows Trenton Man Was Strangled; Elderly Mother In Home With Body For Days

TRENTON (WWJ) - Authorities have released new information about the murder of a 65-year-old Trenton man, the city's first homicide in a decade.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled George Hite's cause of death as homicide by ligature strangulation.

Investigators also said Hite was killed days before his body was discovered last Wednesday during a welfare check at his home in the Westwood Condominiums on Daniel Drive, off of Fort Street just south of West Road.

Hite's 94-year-old bedridden mother was also inside the home when the murder took place, authorities said, and went days without care, food or water.

Investigators say the murder does not appear to be random, but they wouldn't say if robbery was a motive or if they've identified a suspect. Police said earlier there were no signs of forced entry to the home.

Michigan State Police are assisting in the investigation.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact police at 734-676-3737 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
