DETROIT (WWJ) – Need a job? Meijer is now taking applications for positions its second store in Detroit, opening this summer on the city’s west side.

The opening at the site of the former Redford High School, at Grand River and McNichols, means about 270 new jobs, according to  Frank Guglielmi, Senior Director of Communications for Meijer.

Guglielmi said they’ve officially started the application process.

So, who are they looking for?

“The number one thing at Meijer is we’re looking for folks who give great customers service,” Guglielmi told WWJ Newsradio 950’s Zahra Huber. “And a variety of different positions — everything from cashiers, to stocking positions, to meat cutters, to cake decorators…there’s a variety of different roles inside of a store that’s 1890,000 square feet.”

Guglielmi says this store is going to be more “neighborhood-focused” compared to the other Meijer in Detroit, at 8 Mile and Woodward Avenue — much more of a high-traffic area.

Potential candidates can apply online at this link. Enter “Detroit” in the location search field at top of page and click “Search.” Hourly candidates will find positions by clicking the NEW STORE MEIJER Opening Soon in Detroit posting. Descriptions for the available positions will be outlined within the posting.

Alternatively, Guglielmi said, job-seekers can apply in person  at a kiosk in any Meijer store.
