Woman Attacked By Purse Snatcher While Waiting For Bus In Roseville

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Police say a 59-year-old woman is recovering after being attacked by a man while waiting for the bus to take her home from work in Roseville.

The incident unfolded around 11 p.m. Thursday after the woman had finished her shift at the Rite Aid Pharmacy store on Gratiot Avenue and Frazho Road, between 10 Mile and 11 Mile roads in Roseville.

The woman told police that as the bus approached the stop, she started walking up to the street to be picked up when out of nowhere, a man ran up behind her and grabbed her purse.

In his effort to wrench the purse away, police say the suspect spun the woman to the ground and in doing, caused her to suffer a severe laceration over her left eye and injuries to her ribs and left shoulder.

Police say the bus driver saw what was going on and immediately stopped. The driver and several passengers rendered aid to the woman while calling for police and EMT assistance.

Police say the suspect was last seen running east through the Kroger parking lot. Despite the number of witnesses, no one was able to provide any sort of description of the suspect, other than he was a male.

After the incident, an officer searching the area located the victim's purse intact on Salem Street, about two blocks from the crime scene. It appears the only item missing from the purse was $10 in cash.

The woman was transported to a local hospital and was last reported in fair condition.

Police are in the process of obtaining video footage from area businesses in the hope that a nearby surveillance cameras might have captured the suspect on film.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Roseville police at 586-775-2100.
