DETROIT (WWJ) - A 13-year-old girl who apparently ran off with a much older man she met online has been found unharmed.

Just before 2 p.m. Friday, police said Mikayla Champion had been safely located, but they offered few other details. According to reports, she was recovered by police in Roseville after being spotted on a public bus.

Police put out a missing persons alert Friday morning, saying Mikayla was last seen with an unknown man, believed to be about 40- or 45-years-old, around 10 p.m. Thursday at a BP gas station on the corner of 7 Mile and Telegraph roads. Police said Mikayla "voluntarily left her home" in the 22500 block of Frisbee shortly before she was seen at the gas station.

Mikayla was questioned by police, but it's unclear what happened to the man she was spotted with at the gas station. Other circumstances surrounding her disappearance have not been made public.

Lula Rainey, Mikayla's grandmother, said the whole situation is completely out of character for her granddaughter.

"My grandchild, she has never been a wild child out here in the streets, doing any and everything. She's never been a child like that, so that's why this is very scary," Rainey said.

An investigation is ongoing.
