Ice Cream For Everyone! Treat Dreams And Erma's Custard Are Opening More Locations

By Christy Strawser

(CBS Detroit) There's big news for two metro Detroit establishments that offer up the good stuff for the ice cream loving public. And that means everyone -- really, do you want to know people who don't love ice cream?

The east side's Erma's Original Frozen Custard, a tradition since 1942, is expanding with a third location in the former Dairy Boy on Harper in St. Clair Shores, and microcreamery Treat Dreams, which offers up luscious treats in Ferndale, is opening a second location, this one in Detroit.

It's OK to cry a little bit.

For Erma's Frozen Custard, the third location will be at 28840 Harper Avenue in the Shores.

"Fans have been asking for a location on this side of town for a long time" said Jason Schoenherr, one of Erma's owners, in a press release. Former owner Joe Peters Jr., set the wheels in motion when he approached Erma's about buying the Dairy Boy years ago.

As time went on, it finally happened. "Peters' family is very happy to see our location still serving smiles in the neighborhood," he added.

"Can't wait for new place in my area SCS ...Yeah," fan Kimberly Pachy wrote on their Facebook page.

Their other locations are in Shelby Township and Warren. All three stores will be open for business April 1, but a grand opening celebration is planned for Saturday, April 18, at the new Harper Avenue location. Stay up to date with their Facebook page HERE.

Treat Dreams is a newer tradition, which mixes traditional flavors with their own inventions like maple bacon, salted caramel, Guinness oreo, Kooky monster, and lemon lavender.

Treat Dreams will take over the space that was previously held by Melt in Midtown, with plans to open in May, according to a blog by Hungry Dudes that was confirmed on Treat Dream's Facebook page.

"Hello Midtown! Looking forward to a long and beautiful relationship," Treat Dreams wrote on its Facebook page.
