SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) – Residents in three Macomb County communities are getting a heads up about a boil water alert that’ll go into effect on Easter Sunday — while crews make repairs on a 96-inch water main.

The boil advisory affects Shelby Township, Washington Township and the Village of Romeo Industrial Park.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department will start work around 10 p.m. Sunday on a 14 mile stretch Campground Road between 27 Mile and 28 Mile. The advisory will stay in place until the repair is finished, likely within 24 hours.

Residents in affected areas will notice a decrease in water pressure during this time. As a precautionary measure, residents are urged to boil their water until the repairs are completed.

What should you do?

Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Continue using boiled or bottled water until further notice.

Crews are working on the Easter weekend in order to minimize the impact on traffic and their customers due to spring break.
