Teen Killed, Hit-And-Run Driver Wanted In Southfield Freeway Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are looking for a pickup truck driver involved in a fatal accident early Monday morning on the Southfield Freeway in Detroit.

According to officials at the MSP Metro Post, the driver of a Pontiac sedan with a flat tire was pulling over on the southbound side of the freeway — near Joy Road, at around 12:30 a.m. — when the car was rear-ended by a pickup truck that just kept going.

Emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to rescue four people from the car, police said.

All four were taken to a local hospital, where one of them — a 17-year-old boy — was pronounced dead.

The conditions of the car's three surviving occupants was unknown Monday afternoon.  The victim's name was not immediately released.

Police describe the truck that fled the scene only as a white GMC pickup.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the Michigan State Police Metro Post at 248-584-5740.
