Detroit Cop Arraigned On Felony Charges In Macomb County Drive-By Shooting
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit police officer faces multiple weapons charges after he allegedly shot at a Macomb County home in retaliation for comments made about his wife.
Sheriff's officials say 32-year-old Clifford Gullion, of Ray Township, fired several shots early Thursday morning at a home where his wife works as a caregiver.
No one was hurt, but detectives said some of the bullets struck the home on 29 Mile Road, near Romeo Plank, in Ray Township.
What prompted the shooting?
"There was some sort of dispute between the husband of the woman who gets the care and caregiver," said Macomb County Sheriff's spokeswoman John Michalke. "And then she shared her information with her husband who in turn went over there and fired the shots into the home."
Michalke said deputies responded to the scene, interviewed the homeowners, and were later able to determine that Gullion had driven by the residence while he shot a 40 caliber handgun out of the window of his vehicle.
Gullion was arraigned via video Thursday in 42-2 District Court of Romeo, where bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety. He's charged with two counts of firearms - discharge in or at a building (a 10-year felony), and two counts of felony firearms (a two-year felony), and is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on April 28.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Gullion has been suspended by the department without pay. He said the department is taking the matter very seriously.
"Once we were notified we dispatched an internal affairs team to respond out to the sheriff's office to start our internal investigation," Craig said.
Michalke said Detroit police are cooperating fully with sheriff's investigators.
Gullion has been on the force since 2009.
