Michigan State Police Hosting Seminar To Recruit Women; Salaries Start At $44K

LANSING (WWJ/AP) - The Michigan State Police is holding a seminar for women in an effort to increase its number of female recruits.

State Police spokesman Lt. Mike Shaw said women of all rank levels and job titles will be on hand to answer questions during the April 25 event at the Troy Community Center. The seminar will feature information regarding specialty units, such as the Forensic Science Division, Special Investigations, Canine Unit and Biometrics.

The agency is seeking candidates for the 129th Trooper Recruit School, which will begin between this fall and next spring. Participants of the 22-week recruit school will receive a starting salary of $44,000 annually.

Females currently account for just over 10 percent of the State Police force.

The event takes place at 9:45 a.m. at the Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois Road, Troy, MI 48083, Room 304.
