Suspected Intoxicated Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Minivan With 7 Kids Inside
DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say nine people, including seven children, were injured when their vehicle was struck by a driver suspected of being under the influence.
The accident happened late Tuesday night on McGraw Avenue and Renville Street, near I-94 and Lonyo Avenue on Detroit's west side.
According to reports, the minivan was traveling down McGraw when it was struck by am SUV that was traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicles collided with such force, one of the wheels was ripped clear off of the minivan.
All passengers in the minivan -- two adults and seven children -- were taken to a local hospital with various injuries.
The driver of the SUV, who submitted to a field sobriety test, was taken into custody at the scene. Reports say police found drug paraphernalia inside the SUV.
The crash remains under investigation. Names of those involved were not released.
