Chase ATM Theft Foiled When Stolen Truck Gets Stuck

DETROIT (WWJ) -  An ATM theft was foiled by a fence.

It happened Thursday more at a Chase Bank branch on Dexter, south of the Davison, on Detroit's west side.

Detroit police said when they arrived at the scene the suspects had already fled. They didn't get any money and were forced to leave their pickup truck behind after it got stuck in the fence surrounding the cash machine.

Neighbor Jessandra Bagley, who frequents the bank, was flabbergasted by the sight.

"Whoever did this, which is stupid...Like, guys, wake up! There's more serious things going on in life than an ATM," Bagley told WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton.

She believes, on top of botching the robbery itself, the crooks had bad timing.

"Payday is tomorrow, so everybody gets paid on the first," she said. "So why this happening?"

Police believe the truck was stolen. It was towed from the scene.

The attempted robbers remain at large as an investigation continues.
