Mom's Boyfriend Charged In Shooting Of 3-Year-Old Boy At Clinton Township Park

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - An arrest has been made in the shooting of a 3-year old boy a Clinton Township park.

Christian Howard, the boyfriend of a mother whose son was shot in the head, faces child abuse and weapons charges.

According to Clinton Township police, Howard and 3-year old Je'meer Griffin were at Normandy Park  — off Little Mack near 15 Mile Road — when the shooting occurred at around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

The boy's mother told police she dropped the pair off so the toddler could play on the swings. But, after a report of shots fired, police found the man and boy in a wooded area.

Je'meer was rushed to a local hospital. He in stable condition on Wednesday, reported to be "awake and talking."

Police aren't talking about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

Howard was arraigned in 41 B District Court Wednesday one count of second degree child abuse, one count of receiving and concealing firearms, once count of felony firearm, and one count of careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death.

Bond was set at $50,000/10 percent with the condition that he have no contact with the victim or his family if he's released.
