DETROIT (CBS Detroit/AP) – It’s one of the most anticipated events of the summer in downtown Detroit.

Organizers say the spectacular Ford Fireworks will light up the Motor City skyline as part of an annual celebration along the Detroit River — announcing Monday, June 22, as the date for the 57th annual show.

The event hosted by The Parade Co. attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators along the water in Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.

“We are excited to continue our 57 year tradition of bringing this beloved event to our community,” said Tony Michaels, president & CEO, The Parade Company. “We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of Ford Motor Company and our many devoted supporters who help us to make this incredible display bigger and better each year.”

Ford Motor Co. has served as the event’s title sponsor since 2013.

“As part of our strong commitment to the community, Ford is proud to work with The Parade Company in bringing Detroiters and others from southeast Michigan this much anticipated summer event,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “It is always a thrill to come together to mark this memorable and internationally recognized fireworks display in our great city.”

Dearborn-based Ford also will also be hosting “Focus on Freedom” at the fireworks for the second year. Working with the Yankee Air Museum, the event honors more than 250 active and retired military veterans and their families with a reception and up-close view of the fireworks.

And, one of The Parade Company’s largest and most popular fundraisers of the year, The Ford Fireworks Rooftop Party will again offes the best seats in the city to view the fireworks.

The fireworks will go off, as in previous years, at 10:06 p.m. EDT.
