Phillies Pitcher O'Sullivan Hit In Throat By Catcher's Throw [VIDEO]

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillies right-hander Sean O'Sullivan was hit in the throat on a throw back from catcher Cameron Rupp in the sixth inning of Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

O'Sullivan looked as if he was turning back to the plate after talking to his fielders when Rupp fired the ball back to the mound. O'Sullivan, though, hadn't returned his attention to Rupp and the ball caught him flush on the throat.

Philadelphia manager Ryne Sandberg came to the mound, and after a brief delay and one warmup toss, O'Sullivan resumed pitching. He got Aaron Hill to fly out for the final out, finishing his day.

He tossed six scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out four and walking two, and was in line for the victory when he exited.

O'Sullivan was seeking his first victory in more than four years.
