'Michigan Matters' Exclusive: RX For Education In Detroit?

Finding solutions to the daunting challenges facing Detroit Public Schools and other embattled districts was the hot topic at the Michigan Chronicle's "Pancakes and Politics" sold-out forum held at the Detroit Athletic Club.

It was the third of the four season speaker series featuring leaders from the community. "Pancakes and Politics" is shown as exclusive "Michigan Matters" programs.

The third session focused on education and talked about the issues and two plans put forth to address DPS' woes. It air 11:30 am Sunday on CBS 62.

Taking to the "Pancakes" stage was: David Hecker, president of the American Federal of Teachers Michigan, Tonya Allen, president and CEO of the Skillman Foundation, Clark Durant, co-founder of Cornerstone Schools, Darnell Earley, emergency manager for Detroit Public Schools and Veronica Conforme, chancellor, Education Achievement Authority.

The panel was moderated by Carol Cain, senior producer/host of CBS 62's "Michigan Matters" who was joined in the questioning of the panel by Bankole Thompson, senior editor at the Michigan Chronicle.
