DETROIT (WWJ) – If you are hoping for a perfectly sunny Memorial Day weekend, give it all you’ve got and keep your fingers crossed.

CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus said rain clouds will loom over the later half of the long weekend.

“We’ll see plenty of sun on Friday with a high around 64 and Saturday is another good-looking day with lots of sun in our forecast. But there’s a slight chance for rain on Sunday, with a high of 76, and a little bit better of a chance for storms on Memorial Day, with a high of 78,” said Madaus.

The good news is conditions during the day Sunday should be rather pleasant, with partly sunny skies. But rain clouds could move in during the late afternoon, with scattered thunderstorms developing in the evening.

Monday, however, might be a little gloomy. Madaus said skies will be mostly cloudy and it will feel humid, with a chance for showers and thunderstorms on-and-off throughout the whole day. The rain will likely carry over into Tuesday.

Here’s the local forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:
